REFRAINS: MUSIC POLITICS AESTHETICS
Refrains will feature Kim Cascone as our keynote speaker and performer. Mr. Cascone is internationally recognised as an innovator in experimental electronic music, and frequently lectures in California. He will be conducting a talk based upon his recent paper The Aesthetics of Failure: Post-Digital Tendencies in Contemporary Computer Music, published in the Winter 2000 Computer Music Journal. He will also be giving a live audio visual performance. Here's a little blurb on Kim. Refrains is one packed day of lectures and discussions, and one evening of performance, featuring live music, visuals, and installation art. Refrains is free. As there is no charge, the conference will not be supplying meals for participants, although light refreshments will be provided for breakfast for participants. UBC has many restaurants and snack places. Please RSVP. If you are planning on attending, we would ask that you please RSVP to: refrainsconference@hotmail.com Refrains is organised by graduate and post-graduate students at UBC with generous support from our sponsors and a heck of a lot of enthusiasm. Refrains is the third and final performance of the Open Circuits experimental electronic music festival, which takes place Wednesday September 27th and Thursday September 28th at the Video-In. Doors at 8pm, cost for these two nights is $7.
