"But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is that it
is robbing the human race, posterity, as well as the existing generation of
those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it."

"I think the common trait to most artists is an attraction towards the
thrill of uncertainty, and an impulse to again and again put themselves in a
precarious position, even if it is in a very insulated way. Making records
doesn't threaten your life. If you fuck up you're not going to die, but
nonetheless, the thrill is to do something that takes you by surprise, that
makes you wonder, god, what in me does this concept connect with? What part of me have I discovered now?"

It is sad to think that the first few people on earth needed no books,
movies, games or music to inspire coldblooded murder. The day that Cain
bashed his brother Abel's brains in, the only motivation he needed was
his own human disposition to violence. Times have not become more
violent. They've just become more televised.

[4. INTERFOR Violence]

00 VIOLENT INTERFOR EMPLOYEES
DEMOLISH PEACE CAMP AND
BEAT PEACEFUL PROTESTERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TIME:  8:30 AM DATE:  Sept. 16, 1999
LOCATION:  The Stoltmann Wilderness, Elaho Valley (2 hours North of
Squamish) At 11 am yesterday, Interfor allowed over 100 angry employees to leave work to harass and attack 7 protesters camped in the Upper Elaho valley.  Several thugs beat the campers hospitalising two.  The loggers smashed everything they could find in the legal protest camp, including a $6,000 satellite phone which was the only communication to the outside world, and two video cameras which they undoubtedly feared would incriminate them. They vandalised at least two vehicles and burned tents and destroyed other camping equipment. A young BC woman, suffered severe neck injuries and a man was kicked repeatedly in the kidneys. James Jamieson, trail foreman of the nearby WCWC millennial research camp had his van ransacked as loggers forced their way in to stop him calling out for help on the satellite phone.  They then crushed his hand and smashed the satellite phone.

"we urge you to join the resistance and help us to combat the mediocre
audio and visual programming that is being fed to the inhabitants of
earth. this programming is stagnating the minds of the people; building
a wall between races and preventing world peace.

it is this wall we are going to smash. by using the untapped energy
potential of sound we are going to destroy this wall much the same as
certain frequencies shatter glass. techno is music based in
experimentation; it is sacred to no one race; it has no definite sound.
it is music for the future of the human race. without this music there
will be no peace. no love. no vision.

by simply communicating through sound, techno has brought people of all
different nationalities together under one roof to enjoy themselves.
isn't it obvious that music and dance are the keys to the universe? so
called primitive animals and tribal humans have known this for thousands
of years! we urge all brothers and sisters of the underground to create
and transmit their tones and frequencies no matter how so called
primitive their equipment may be. transmit these tones and wreck havoc
on the programmers! long live the underground"

-- Mad Mike Banks, Underground Resistance

[6. GRAVITY]

hmmm, what's that you say???? huh???

an old nw-raves tradition is about to raise it's ugly head... teamlounge
and co are FINALLY getting off our lazy asses, and dragging a set of decks
down to the sugar refinery on sunday night to flog the dead horse that is
Gravity... remember that??? Well I'm sure some of you do... anyways, in
conjunction with HQ Communications, Teamlounge is back at doing our thing...

so if you're wondering what that is, come down to the sugar reefinery
sunday night to see exactly that... prolly a bunch of drunks dropping
science on the downtempo tip... sure to be amusing at the very
least..........
:p

"If the music made you dance, you danced.  If the music made you scream,
you  screamed.   You could have  all the frustrations  in the world, but
your drug was supposed to have been the music,  your doctor was supposed
to have  been the music, your  counsellor;  the music.  When you  needed
someone to love,  you made love  to the music.  That's the  underground.
It's allowing  you to cut loose and be yourself,  and let the music take
control. The true underground had a mystique that you could not explain."

Further reconaissance has discovered a hybrid weapon causing immense
casualties in the trenches. Unknown allied technicians are believed to have fused the insinuating sonic stealth of techno and the raw destructive power of traditional beat warfare.

Upon interrogation of the only survivor of the latest
assault, the shivering soldier replied only in a feeble tone ...
"they called it tech-house".

Recent intelligence shows the desperation of the situation. Rumours are flying around our camp -- Chair Battalions IV and V (led by assault operatives Altitude and Rainfield) and Woodwork Battalions III and IV (led by tactical operatives Sunkissed and Crave) have been sighted in the area and have moved to cut off any escape.

We will die like deep house soldiers.
